Askrinn – Hjørleifsljóð

Once I was told that some of the finest albums were made by one-man bands. To some extend this is true, especially nowadays. Many artists choose to work on their own despite it’s time-consuming, expensive and demands full devotion to make everything work together. Askrinn is a representative of the one-man group and in my opinion he’s got the potential of becoming one of the top ones. The mastermind who stands  behind this name is Valenten who demonstrates his talent on a number of levels. First off, running a one-manRead More

Darkenhöld – Castellum

Before getting into the core of this article, I’d like to begin by sending my special regards to Oliver of Ollo Promotion. Thanks to him I got to know Darkenhöld and their brand new full-length “Castellum”. Being a huge fan of French black metal, I pay close attention to what’s going on over there and try to track  (as much as possible) the emerging bands. Darkenhöld, however, managed to slip out of my sight and by the time I found out about them, these guys had made a 3rd album. Epicness of epic proportions DarkenhöldRead More
Noctem Cursis - Nocturnal Frost
Noctem Cursis are no strangers to SBM. A couple of months ago they appeared here with a song from their new album “Nocturnal Frost.” This one is a tremendous leap in their musical development since 2011 and you are about to see why. Hailing from the French underground and established in 2010, a year later Noctem Cursis marked their first milestone by releasing their EP “Wrath of Winter.”  What’s more curious is  the follow-up  “Nocturnal Frost” because it portrays the band in a different state – very, very advanced. Gandreid – Nordens Skalder

Forever we’ll be reigning in this kingdom of timelessness Gandreid was born in 2011 as a studio project of Dáublódir, a musician from Bergen who first reached my attention through Skygge. After he “dug up and blew some dust off” old ideas from somewhen between 1999 and 2002, he recorded Gandreids first album Nordens Skalder – and both name and album title give you a very good idea of what’s to come: “Gandreid” is Norwegian for the Wild Hunt, “Skalder” are poets who composed at Norwegian and Icelandic courts inRead More
Heresiarch Seminary - Whirwind of Wild Hunt
Russian bm scene captured my attention long time ago. There are many names that shall always have a reserved place in my playlist among which are Ashen Light, Stigmatic Chorus and Black Shadow. However, as going deeper in the Russian underground, I stumbled upon a priceless treasure that happened to be recently (so to speak) released. To be honest, before hearing Whirlwind of Wild Hunt, I hadn’t heard of Heresiarch Seminary and as soon as I did, I basically added yet another Russian band to my modest fav list. TheRead More
